The world is full of hopeless romantics spying on the one they love from a distance, only to see a far less interesting character win the race. If the spirit of this song had to be squeezed into the most simplistic and concise statement, it would probably be something along the lines of “the quarterback always wins”. Think Peter Parker and Flash Thompson, or Clark Kent and Whitney Fordman. That feeling of knowing what could be if only one was brave enough to make a step forward, rather than living through the lens of a camera. Or a telescope. Or internet for that matter.
